Photosynthesis - 9 Flashcards
What is the overall equation of photosynthesis
6CO2 + 6H2O → C6H12O6 + 6O2
What is the structure of chloroplasts
Outer membrane
Intermembrane space
Inner membrane
Granum made up of Thylakoids
Where is light energy captured
In Photosystems. These are protein complexes in the thylakoid membrane that contain chlorophyll. This produces high energy e- that travel through photosynthetic e- transport chain.
How many membranes does it have
3 (Inner, outer and thylakoid)
What are the main inputs of Photosynthesis
Light, water and carbon
What are the main outputs of photosynthesis
Glucose and oxygen
Where do animals get their energy for respiration from
From external sources (eating)
What are the two parts of photosynthesis and their outputs
Light reaction - H2O->2H+ + 1/2O2
Calvin cycle - 3CO2-> 3 glucose
What is the origin of chloroplasts and mitochondria
Both used to be their own separate cell until they were engulfed by another. Instead of being digested they were integrated. This is why both have DNA and ribosomes
