Photosynthesis Flashcards
Light Dependent reaction occurs in…?
The thylakoid membranes of chloroplast
Photosystem = ??
A group of pigments on thylakoid membranes
Photosystem I absorbs light at a wavelength of….?
700nm
Photosystem II absorbs light at a wavelength of ….?
680nm
The light Dependent reaction consists of…..
Non-cyclic photo phosphorylation 🍓🙅
Light dependent reaction process??
- light is absorbed by chlorophyll in Photosystem II
- electrons have increased energy
- electrons pass down a series of electron carriers (transport chain)
- electron carriers are reduced
- the energy it looses is used to make ATP from ADP and Pi
- light is absorbed by chlorophyll in Photosystem I
- electrons have increased energy
- the energy is used to make NADPH
-photolysis (the splitting of water) gives electrons to Photosystem II and also makes oxygen
Role of photolysis in the LDR?
Photolysis (the splitting of water) gives electrons to Photosystem II and also makes oxygen
🎀🎀🎀🎀
What products of the LDR are used in the LIR??
ATP and NADPH
How is ATP made in the LDR??
ATP is made using ATPsynthase enzyme, which is activated by a concentration gradient of H+ ions
Where does the light Independent reaction occur??
In the stroma of the chloroplast
The process of the light Independent reaction??
RuBP combines with CO2 (using rubisco)
2 GP produced
2 GP reduced to 2 TP
(ATP > ADP + Pi )
(NADPH > NADP + H )
Glucose made, other carbon containing molecules protein amino acids starch
2TP converted to RuBP
( using ATP)
Limiting factor on photosynthesis??
If there is not enough of a factor that is needed for photosynthesis 🎈🎈🎈
Temperature increase on rate of photosynthesis ??
As temp increases the rate of photosynthesis also increases as particles have more KINETIC energy
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
If temperature is increased too much then the rate of photosynthesis will decrease as ENZYMES (e.g. Rubisco) are DENATURED
Affect of increasing light intensity on rate of photosynthesis ??
Light intensity increases, the rate of photosynthesis increases
(Light intensity is the limiting factor while the graph is increasing)
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
Then the rate plateaus and remains the same, even with increasing light.
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
This is because something other than light is now the limiting the rate of reaction
Affect of increasing carbon dioxide conc. on rate of photosynthesis ???
CO2 conc. increases the rate of photosynthesis increases…
Carbon dioxide is the limiting factor while the graph is increasing
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
Then rate remains the same, even if you increase CO2 conc.
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
Because something other than CO2 is now limiting the rate of reaction
