Q

What is the test for starch?

A

Put the leaf in boiling hot water to destroy cells so that the starch comes out. Add iodine to the leaf, if there is starch present the leaf will turn a blue-black colour. If it is orange-yellow there is no starch present.

Q

Explain how leaves are adapted for photosynthesis

A
  • Veins which carry water and glucose.
  • They are wide which means they can collect more sunlight.
-They are thin which means the diffusion of gasses is faster.
  • They are green which means they contain chlorophyl.
