13
Q

Describe the process during the electron transport chain.

A

Photons excite electrons in chlorophyll; H2O is split into 2 H+, 2 electrons, and O2. Electron is delivered to PSII reaction center. H+ is pumped into lumen. The electron is reengerized in PSI through photon excitation. Then the electron plus H+ goes to NADP+ which is reduced to NADPH, which enters the Calvin cycle.

Q

What are the outputs for the Calvin Cycle?

A

CH2O, ADP, Pi, NADP+

17
Q

List in order the three phases of the calvin cycle

A

Fixation; reduction; regeneration

18
Q

What happens in fixation?

A

3 CO2 go into enzyme Rubisco to combine carbons from CO2 to RuBP to form 2, 3-PGA.

19
Q

What happens in reduction?

A

ATP and NADPH are used to add electrongs and make 6 G3P (which make glucose). Only 1 out of every 5 leave the cycle.

20
Q

What happens in regeneration?

A

RuBp is regenerated from remaining G3P. During a series of 10 reactions, G3P are rearranged into RP. RP is phosphorylated to produce RuBp, which goes back to the start of the cycle.

21
Q

What is photolysis?

A

chemical compound is broken apart by photons. In photosynthesis, this is H2O, which is broken up into 2 H+ and O2.

22
Q

List in order the four steps of light-dependent reaction

A

Absorbed light in chlorophyll excites electron, H2O is split and creates O2 and 2 H+; electrons and H+ to NADP+ reducing it to NADPH.

23
Q

What is the function of PSII?

A

Capture energy from light to split H2O.

24
Q

What is the function of PSI?

A

Capture energy to reduce NADP+ to NADPH.

25
Q

Where does the light dependent part of photosynthesis occur?

A

The thyklakoid membrane.

26
Q

What light/color does Chloraphyll A absorb? Reflect? Where is it located?

A

Absorbs red and blue. Reflects green. Found in thylakoid membrane.

27
Q

What light/color does Chlorophyll B absorb? Reflect? Where is it located?

A

Absorbs blue; reflects yellow, red, and orange. Found in thylakoid membrane.
