Photosynthesis Flashcards
What is the formula for photosynthesis?
6CO2 + 6H2O →SUNLIGHT C6H12O6 + 6O2
Name the two parts of photosynthesis.
Light-dependent and light-independent.
Where does photosynthesis occur in the plant cell?
Chloroplast
Name the parts of the chloroplast.
Stomata; stroma; thylakoid
Name the parts of the thylakoid
Chlorophyll; lumen
What is chlorophyll?
pigments that absorb light. Different chlorophyll absorb different light.
What are photons?
Bundles of light energy that excite electrons.
Which wavelength carries more energy?
Short wavelengths
List inputs for light dependent reaction.
Sunlight, H2O, NADP+, ADP, Pi
List outputs for light dependent reaction.
O2, NADPH, ATP
What process happens in light dependent reaction?
The electron transport chain.
Describe the process of photoact
Photons excite chlorophyll and they give up an electron (are oxidized).
Describe the process during the electron transport chain.
Photons excite electrons in chlorophyll; H2O is split into 2 H+, 2 electrons, and O2. Electron is delivered to PSII reaction center. H+ is pumped into lumen. The electron is reengerized in PSI through photon excitation. Then the electron plus H+ goes to NADP+ which is reduced to NADPH, which enters the Calvin cycle.
Where does the Calvin Cycle occur?
In the stroma.
What are the inputs for the Calvin Cycle?
CO2, ATP, NADPH
