Q

Thylakoids

A

Stacked up in the chloroplast into structures called the grana are linked together by bits off thylakoid membrane called lamellae.

Q

Photosynthetic pigments

A

chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b
These are coloured substances that absorb the light energy needed for photosynthesis the pigments are found in the thylakoid and are attached to proteins this is called a photosystem

Q

Accessory pigments

A

Make up light harvesting systems. These surround reaction centres and transfer light energy to them to boost the energy available for electron excitement

Q

Light dependant reaction

A
  • Requires light energy
  • Takes place in the thylakoid membranes of the chloroplasts
  • Light energy is used to add a phosphate group to ADP to create ATP and to reduce NADP H20 oxidised to O2

Q

Light independent reaction

A
  • Known as Calvin cycle doesn’t use light energy directly
  • Takes place in stroma of chloroplasts
  • Here ATP and reduced NADP supply the energy and hydrogen to make glucose from C02

Q

Why is 25 degrees optimum

A

This is the perfect temp for maximum enzyme activity its important as enzymes catalyse the reactions in the krebs cycle
