Phases Of Flight: Take Off And Climb Flashcards

Q

During climb after gear up, what are the stages at which events take place, up to 3000’?

A

At 1000ft, the PF will set the AUTOPILOT. He will state “AUTOPILOT B TO COMMAND”

At 1500ft AAL (bugged in the stby alt), the same gent will call CLIMB THRUST CLEAN SPEED

If AP is engaged, which it should be as we set it to command, then the PF then presses N1. This sets the auto thrust to the cruise power setting (I think), so we will begin to accelerate.

At V2+15, PF calls for flaps 1. PM responds and sets.
When flaps are up, call flaps up no lights.

PF maintains up speed at 210 until 3000ft, then accelerates to 250kts.

At 3000, PM initiate a GARP check.

Q

When cleared take off, up to rotate and climb, what are the calls and SOPs?

A

When cleared take off, the PF releases his brakes, sets the chrono, and sets around 40% n1, ALLOWS TO STABILISE, presses TOGA, and states “SET THRUST”.
He swaps his hands on the controls with the PM, and reads aloud the FMS setup on screen, in this case being N1, HDG SEL, TOGA.

The PM confirms this by saying CHECKED, confirms N1, states THRUST SET, and keeps his hands on the thrust until v1 so that he can reject takeoff if needed.

PM monitors the speed and calls 80kts, to which the PF calls checked.

PM calls v1 and ROTATE.

PF sets 17nu

PM then calls POSITIVE CLIMB,
PF: GEAR UP,
PM: GEAR UP and perform action.

Q

What happens in the latter stages of the climb? Up until cruise.

A

From 3000’, the PF makes some calls. Firstly: “release cabin crew”
The PM can now release the cabin crew by turning the seatbelt sign off and on.
“Engine start switches off” (unless in icing)
Then finally
“After takeoff checklist”. This checks that the GARP was completed.

At the transition altitude or when cleared to a flight level, the PF will request “set std” at which point the PM sets standard and calls standard cross checked, passing FL _.

At FL100 or cruise, the PM calls 100. The PF then says “checked, altimeters set, climbing FL” or checked Maintaining FL _.
