Pharynx Flashcards
What muscles are innervated by the pharyngeal plexus cranial nerves nine and 10
Superior middle and inferior for initial constrictors
What do the pharyngeal constrictors do?
Elevate and constrict to produce downward movement on the Bolus
What are the longitudinal pharyngeal muscles?
these muscles course along the length of the pharynx and contribute to Pharyngeal and laryngeal elevation- the salpingopharyngeus and palatipharyngeus are innervated by the Vegas nerve. The stylopharyngeus is innervated by the glossopharyngeal nerve.
What contributes to Hyolaryngeal elevation?
Pearson & colleagues reported that both suprahyoid and longitudinal pharyngeal muscles contributed to laryngeal elevation during swallowing and during swallowing maneuvers
What nerves carry sensation to the brain?
Cranial nerve nine in mucosa in the nasal pharynx and cranial nerve 10 in the hypopharynx
