Pharm 10 - Adrenergics Flashcards
rate limiting enyzme for catecholamine synthesis and the sole inhibitor of it
tyrosine hydroxylase; alpha- methyltyrosine
MOA of the inhibitors of catecholamine storage (ICS)
short term increase in catecholamine but long term depletion of available pool of catecholamines
Inhibitor of Catecholamine Storage used for hypertension (3)
Reserpine, guanethidine, guanadrel
Inhibitor of Catecholamine Storage used for ADHD and narcolepsy
amphetamine (narcoleptics) , methylphenidate
Inhibitor of Catecholamine Storage used for allergic rhinitis and Nasal Congestion
Pseudoephedrine
ADR : GI hemorrhage, thrombocytopenia, dream anxiety disorder impotence and psychotic depression
Reserpine
ADR: kidney disease , apnea , orthostatic hypotention fluid retention, dizzines , blurred vision, impotence
Guanethidine , guanadrel
ADR: hypertension, tachyarrhythmia, Gilles de la Tourettes syndrome, seizure psychotic disorder w/ prolonged use
Amphetamine, Methylphenidate
ADR: A-fib, Ventricular Premature Beats, MI, insomnia, tachyarrhythmia, hypertension
Pseudoephedrine
Irreversibly inhibits VMAT but rarely used because of its association with psychotic depression
Reserpine
Displaces norepinephrine from the storage vesicles. and can lead to reduced Cardiac Output
Guanethidine, Guanadrel
Displace endogenous catecholamines and also weakyl inhibit MAO and block reuptake at NET and DAT, dependence is possible
Amphetamine, Methylphenidate
Inhibitors of Catecholamine Reuptake and at what receptor
Cocaine, Imipramine, and Amitriptyline@NET
INhibitors of MAO
PICTureS of BoMBs
- Phenelzine
- Iproniazid
- clorgyline
- Tranylcypromine
- Selegine
- Befloxatone
- Moclobemide
- Brofaromine
Alpha1-adrenergic agonists (4) and Mechanism
- Phenylephrine, Oxymetazoline, Tetrahydrazoline, Methoxamine (MethPhenOxyTet)
- Activates central Alpha1-adrenergic auto receptors to Increase peripheral resistance
Indicated for Opthalmic hyperemia and Nasal Congestion
Phenylephrine (can use in hypotension), Oxymetazoline, Tetrahydrazoline
