pgs. 161-166 Flashcards
What is the patch-patch method?
candidate antibiotic producers are patched around a single edge of the plate, tester strain in middle, separated by a gap
What is the spread-patch method?
tests for antibiotic production by candidate isolates that are in close physical contact with tester strain
What is the top agar method?
liquefied agar is mixed with the tester strain and poured over patches of the soil isolates
What does aerobic mean for liquid culture?
incubate with shaking
What does aerobic mean for solid culture?
all strains should be grown in regular aerobic conditions
How does E. carotovora grow?
grows fairly slowly in liquid culture
How does L. antibioticus grow?
grows slowly on a plate
How does S. epidermidis grow?
grows very slowly in the antibiotic assays
What colony morphologies does A. baylyi have?
opaque and white-coloured
