When can we start diagnosing personality disorders?
Age 18, difficult to diagnose before that
Cluster A
Odd or eccentric disorders. Paranoid, schizoid, schizotypal
Cluster B
Dramatic, emotional or erratic. Antisocial, borderline, histrionic, narcisstic.
Cluster C
Anxious/fearful disorders. Avoidant, dependent, obsessive-compulsive.
Paranoid Personality Disoerder
Irrational suspicions and mistrust of others.
Schizoid Personality Disorder
No interest in social interactions.
Schizotypal Personality Disorder
Weird and bizarre thinking, ideas of reference.
Antisocial personality disorder
Pervasive disregard for the law and rights of others
Borderline Personality Disorder
Characterized by impulsive behaviors, black or white thinking, self-harm
Histrionic Personality Disorder
Pervasive attention-seeking behavior, inappropriately seductive behavior and exaggerated emotions.
Narcissistic Personality Disorder
Pervasive Pattern of grandiosity, need for admiration, and a lack of empathy
Avoidant Personality Disorder
Social inhibition, avoidance of social interaction.
Dependent Personality Disorders
Pervasive psychological dependence on others
Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder
Rigid conformity to rules moral codes and excessive orderliness
Is schizotypal personality disorder included in the schizophrenia spectrum?
Yes! But its also a personality disorder, and they run in families.
