personality and sport and psych Flashcards
Hollanders (1971) Model of Personality four key compenets
psychological core, typical repsonses, role-related bahaviours and social environment.
what is the psychological core of hollanders model of personality
internal and core personality characteristics. your INNER self, basic values, beliefes and self esteem.
typical responses of hollanders model of personality
learned methods of dealing with the environment (ie traits). This is a valid indicator of the psychological core.
role related responses of hollanders model of personality

social environment part of the model of personality
all the other three exist within and are affected by the social environment.
six viewpoints to the study of personality
psychodynmaic, trait, situational, interactional, phenomenological, and integrative.
trait approach
B=f(p). a relative stable disposition to behave in a certain way; traits are the fundamental units of personality - how you generally act or behave. the way we automatically learn to respond to things.
situational approach
B = f (E)
personality and behaviour is determined largely by the social environment. Draws from social learning theory (Bandura) =, which explains behaviour in terms of observational learning (modelling) and social reinforcement (feedback).
interactionist approach
B = f (pxE) situation and person are co-determinants of personality and behaviour.
2 commonly used theoretical frameworks.
trait and interaction
how is trait used as a measurement of personality
questionnaires (multiple traits)
are there sport trait framework questionaires ?
no
4 ways you can use interaction framework as a measurement of personality.
state and trait measures, situation - specific measures and sport-specific measures and using psychological measures
state and trait measures example
state/trait anxiety inventory (speilberger et al., 1970)
situation-specific measures example
use the interactional approach theory. exam/test anxiety
