Observe - Identity - Reinforce - Copy
Socialisation
Developing personality traits by associating and learning from others
Primary socialisation

Secondary socialisation
Schools and media
Interactionist perspective
Combines trait and social learning to predict behaviour in a certain situation
B=F(PxE)
Behaviour = Function (Personality x Environment)
Credulous approach
Believe personality can predict behaviour
Sceptical approach
Don’t believe personality can predict behaviour
Hollander approach three aspects
Core, typical response, role related behaviour
Core
Values and beliefs of a person
Typical response
How your traits display through your response to a certain situation for example a aggressive person may punch opponent in the face if they keep annoying them
Role related behaviour
Performer may adapt a role / attitude depending on the situation for example a player may take the role of taking a penalty under lots of pressure
Nature
Trait theory
Nurture
Social learning theory
How can a coach use the interactionist theory to improve performance
- coach can predict aggressive behaviour and take player off which can avoid red card
- create challenging situations in training to help players cope, eg get nervous players to train in front of a crowd
- coach can encourage players to adapt to specific situations e.g calm down / encourage nervous players
