- Positive view of ppl; inclination toward becoming fully functioning
- Client experiences feelings previously denied to awareness
- Client moves toward increased awareness, spontaneity, trust in self & inner-directedness

- Client has potential to become aware of problems & means to resolve them
- Faith placed in client’s capacity for self-direction
