What are the steps in making ethical decisions?
A
- Identify problem/dilemma
- Identify potential issues
- Look at relevant ethics codes for general guidance
- Consider applicable laws & regulations and determine how they may have bearing on ethical dilemma
- Seek consultation from more than one source to obtain various perspectives on dilemma & document suggestions received in client’s record
- Brainstorm various possible courses of action
- Enumerate consequences of various decisions & reflect on implications of each course of action for client
- Decide on what appears to be best possible course of action
