What are the steps in making ethical decisions?

A
  1. Identify problem/dilemma
  2. Identify potential issues
  3. Look at relevant ethics codes for general guidance
  4. Consider applicable laws & regulations and determine how they may have bearing on ethical dilemma
  5. Seek consultation from more than one source to obtain various perspectives on dilemma & document suggestions received in client’s record
  6. Brainstorm various possible courses of action
  7. Enumerate consequences of various decisions & reflect on implications of each course of action for client
  8. Decide on what appears to be best possible course of action
