Peripheral Vascular System and Lymphatic System Flashcards
The vascular system is made up of?
The Vessels
What are vessels?
vessels are tubes for transporting fluids like blood or lymph.
what happens if the vascular system is damaged?
Any disease to the vascular system creates problem with transporting oxygen and nutrient to the tissues as well as elimination of waste product
types of arteries?
- Temporal artery (palpable in front of the ear)
- Caroid artery (between the trachea and sternomastiod)
- Arteries in the arms (brachial, ulna and radial)
- Arteries in the legs (femoral, posterior tibial, popliteal artery)
types of veins
- jugular vein
- veins in the arm
veins in the leg (femoral and popliteal, great and small vein, perforators)
differenve betwen veins and arteries
- vein (deoxyenated), artery (oxgenated)
- vein is a low pressure system while artery is a high pressure system
the both are elastic. artery expands during systole and recoils during diastole
The ability for a vain to stretch gives it the name…
Capicitance vessels
Lymph nodes
- Cervical (drains the head and neck)
- Axillary (drains the breast and upper arm)
- Epitrochlear (hand and lower arm)
- Inguinal (lower extremities, abdominal wall and external genitalia)
The lymphatic vessels drains into 2 main trunk…?
The right lympatic duct empies into the right subclavian vein
The thoracic duct empties into the left subclavian vein
the hardening of arteries?
arteriosclerosis
Doppler Ultrasonic Stethoscope
used for weak pulse and to monitor blood pressure
Arterial insufficiency leads to ?
arterial (ischemic) ulceration
Venous insufficiency leads to ?
venous (stasis) ulceration
