What is the peripheral nervous system
All parts of the nervous system besides the brain and spinal cord
What is the Somatic system
connects the central nervous system mainly to skeletal muscles, skin, and sense organs. This system is somewhat under conscious awareness and control
example: seeing, hearing, moving. controls reflexes too (involving muscles)
What is the Autonomic system
Connects the central nervous system mainly to internal organs. usually there is no conscious/voluntary control over these activites.
example: breathing, heartbeat, dilation of pupils
What is the autonomic system made of
Sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems
What is the sympathetic nervous system
Dominant under stressful situations, adrenaline and noradrenaline are released to energize muscles
What is the parasympathetic nervous system
dominant system under normal conditions. it also works to return the body to normal conditions after a sympathetic response
