What’s periodisation?
Planning your training session to ensure that during the competitive season you’re at peak fitness
What are the 3 phases to periodisation?
Preparation
Competition
Transition
What do the 3 phases include?
Preparation- quantity over quality to develop fitness levels/general conditioning
Competition- quality over quantity to refine skills and tac tics/maintain fitness levels
Transition- active recovery/to recover whilst maintains some fitness
What does tapering mean?
Reducing the volume/intensity of training prior to competition
What does peaking mean?
Planning and organising training so the performer is at their peak both physically and mentally for a major competition
What is a macro cycle?
Long term period of training
E.g. a year
What’s a meso cycle?
A medium term block of training
E.g. 4-12 weeks
What’s a microcycle?
A short term block of training
E.g. typically a week or a few days
