What is verbal guidance?
Description/explanation of what you want the individual to do
What’s visual guidance?
Demonstration/video of why you want the individual to do
What’s mechanical guidance?
Use of equipment to aid learning of a skill
What’s manual guidance?
Physically moving the performer to the correct position to aid their learning of the skill
Who should you use verbal guidance with?
Autonomous or cognitive learners
If with cognitive learners use concise and simple language
Who should you use visual guidance with?
Cognitive
However it needs to be technically perfect
Who should you use manual guidance with?
Cognitive learners
Can use with autonomous but at their level they should have a level of the groove of the skill
Who should you use mechanical guidance with?
Autonomous
Possibly cognitive but they may spend their time grooving the wrong skill
What are things to consider with visual guidance?
Highlights weaknesses
Everyone needs to be able to see
It has to be in real time or slowed down if a video
Needs to be clear and concise
Requires verbal cues to go alongside
Needs an experienced coach - show perfect technique
What are things to consider with verbal guidance?
Can be given during a performance
Feedback can be given through it
Cannot be used along with beginners (has to be used alongside visual)
It can be overloading
Coaches can use catchy phrases to help performers remember stuff
