Periodic Table Flashcards
How did Mendeleev decide to arrange the elements into a periodic table.
He put the elements in order by their atomic mass, and then placed elements with similar properties in the same rows.
What does the atomic mass number tell you on the periodic table?
The average mass of a particular element on the table. Also can be used to calculate the average number of electrons in an element.
Where are the metals generally located on the periodic table?
To the left of the thick line on the table.
Where are the most reactive element located on the periodic table?
The column on the far left, and the second to last column on the right.
What happens to the number of valence electrons in an element as you move from left to right on the periodic table.
The valence electron number goes up. For the A elements the column number equals the number of valence electrons.
What does the atomic number tell you about an atom.
The number of protons in the atom as well as the number of electrons in an uncharged atom.
