Perdita 6. Flashcards
Quote
“Even now I tremble to think your father by some accident should pass this way you did”
Overview
Perdita fears what will come to herself but also her lover as she fears the rejection that they both will face through the wrath of his father
Analysis
Perdita worries that her romance with Florizel is selfish on herself as she understands that Florizel only is looking out for Perdita while she shows loving concern and looks out for Florizel as she fears his rejection or death from his father
Dramatic Method
Foreshadowing can be seen to be relevant as this is exactly what happens towards the end of Act 4 while Polixenes tricks Florizel into telling him his plans of marriage and threatens not only her but him and her family
Characterisation as it shows Perdita to be a sensible character that has gone through hard times that has given her this anxiety and fear of the wrath of the king. It shows her true love for Florizel as while he can be seen as naive and blinded by love, Perdita looks at the bigger picture and worries for her partners safety as well as his emotional stability and relationship with his father
Dramatic irony as the audience is aware of Polixenes coming to investigate his sons actions
Context
This can give context on the Last plays as while this play merges into a romance it still carries the fear and anxiety of a tragedy. Allowing this to be known as a last play as he continues this ambiguous streak within the play
Theme
Can carry the theme of love
Link
This can Link towards the end of this act as it sends the characters into panic as polixenes rejects this marriage shown through the quote “mark your divorce young sir”
