Florizel 1. Flashcards
Quote
“No shepherdess but flora peering in April’s front”
“And you the queen on’t”
Overview
It is the sheep shearing festival creating a shift in the seasons to spring. Florizel is giving Perdita words of affirmation on her costume
Analysis
Even though Florizel has been brought up as a prince with a father that strongly believes there should be no-interclass relations as it can be viewed as detrimental to the kingdom, florizel only sees Perdita in terms of her inner and outer beauty despite knowing that he could be disowned or murdered by his own father except he doesnt care because he is infatuated with Perdita
Dramatic Method
This quote symbolises the change in season with spring symbolising youth, new beginnings and the younger characters this causes a contrast from the first section of this play that can be regarded as a tragedy however, due to the use of symbolisation it can be alluded that this play will end on a new beginning for the next generation
Context
Flora is the goddess of spring. Reference to gods proving that he sees Perdita as an equal as Kings were seen to be given their title through gods through the divine right of kings creating irony as she is an equal but also carries the theme of love as he sees past the trivial of this time period
Theme
Appearance vs reality. Love
Link
Can link to Polixenes stating “too noble for this place” as polixenes also can recognise Perditas mannerisms as being that of a royal however, this view changes once he finds out Florizel can jeopardise their kingdom through marriage
