ball and socket joint

what is normally classified as a hip fracture?
a fractured neck of femur
what type of hip dislocation causes the limb to appear shorter and internally rotated?
posterior dislocation - impact on hip when hip is flexed, internally rotated and adducted - seated position
may result in sciatic nerve injury
what is anterior dislocation of the hip?
occurs when force is applied during extreme abduction with external rotation of the hip
femoral head is levered out anteriorly
limb appears externally rotated, abducted and flexed
what is DDH?
developmental dysplasia of the hip
congenital abnormality
ball is no longer centred in the socket - most cases femur out of socket
