Q

What is the function of the gluteal muscles?

A

Gluteus medius and minimus
–> Abduction
–> internal rotation
–> Stabilises unsupported side of pelvis to prevent it tilting during walking

Gluteus maximus
–> Hip extension
–> External rotation
–> supports extended knee via iliotibial tract e.g. standing from sitting, walking up stairs
