Pelvis Flashcards
What is the nerve supply gluteus maximus?
What is the action of gluteus maximus?
What is the nerve supply of tensor fascia lata/
Inferior gluteal nerve L5-S2
Extension of hip, lateral rotation of the hip
Superior gluteal nerve
What is the origin and insertion of gluteus maximus?
Origin
-Gluteal surface ilium, sacrum and coccyx
Insertion:
-iliotibial tract, gluteal tuberosity of femur
What is origin and insertion of gluteus medius?
Where does gluteus minimus insert?
Origin: gluteal surface of ilium
Insertion: lateral GT
Anterior GT
What is the function of the gluteal muscles?
Gluteus medius and minimus
–> Abduction
–> internal rotation
–> Stabilises unsupported side of pelvis to prevent it tilting during walking
Gluteus maximus
–> Hip extension
–> External rotation
–> supports extended knee via iliotibial tract e.g. standing from sitting, walking up stairs
What clinical sign is evident with weakness of gluteus medius and how would you test it?
Damage to what nerve produces trendelenburg gait?
Trendelenburg gait/positive trendelenburg test
Superior gluteal nervee
