Pelvic Skeletal Anatomy, Anal Triangle Flashcards
Dissection 16
What 2 muscles form pelvic walls?
- Piriformis
2. Obturator internus
What 2 muscles form pelvic diaphragm (floor)?
- Levator ani
2. Coccygeus
What are the 5 boundaries of pelvic outlet?
- Pubic symphysis
- Ischiopubic rami
- Ischial tuberosities
- Sacrotuberous ligaments
- Coccyx
How can pelvic outlet be divided?
(Line between two ischial tuberosities)
- Anterior: urogenital triangle
- Posterior: anal triangle
What separates abdomen from pelvis?
Pelvic outlet
From a medial perspective, what plane is urogenital triangle in?
Perpendicular to coronal (// with floor)
From a medial perspective, what plane is anal triangle in?
Almost // with plane of pubic inlet (makes 45* angle with plane of urogenital triangle)
What is a method of obstetric anesthesia?
Blockage of pudendal nerve at ischial spine
What does pudendal nerve innervate?
All muscles of pelvis and perineum (via inferior rectal and perineal nerves)
What spinal segments contribute to pudendal nerve?
S2, S3, S4
What is the effect of anesthetizing pudendal nerve?
- Anesthesia of much of perineal skin (less pain)
- Relaxation of perineal muscles (facilitating birth)
(Would the patient void their bladder and bowel?)
Where does L5 vertebrate meet sacrum?
Sacral promontory
What defines the false and true pelvises?
False: superior to pelvic inlet
True: inferior to pelvic inlet
What single nerve innervates external rectal sphincter?
Inferior rectal nerve
What spinal segments compose pudendal nerve?
S2-S4
