Finish Midsagittal Study of Pelvis, Pelvic Blood and Nerve Supply, Sacral Plexus Flashcards
Dissection 19
Where does the ureter run after stemming from the renal pelvis?
- Anterior to bifurcation of common iliac vessels
2. Posterior to ductus deferens
What are the 4 innervations of the pelvis and perineum?
- Foregut: celiac plexus and ganglia (thoracic splanchnics and posterior vagal trunk)
- Midgut: superior mesenteric plexus and ganglia (thoracic splanchnics and posterior vagal trunk)
- Hindgut: inferior mesenteric plexus and ganglia (lumbar splanchnics [S] and pelvic splanchnics [PS])
- Pelvis and perineum: inferior hypogastric plexus and ganglia (lumbar splanchnics via hypogastric nerve [S], sacral splanchnics [S] and pelvic splanchnics [PS]
What is the lymphatic drainage pattern of the testes and ovaries?
Follow venous drainage to para-aortic (lumbar) nodes
During vaginal exam, how can rectouterine pouch be palpated?
Palpate posterior vaginal fornix (space between posterior edge of cervix and posterior vaginal wall)
What 2 structures pass through the lesser sciatic foramen?
- Pudendal nerve and vessels (out greater, in lesser)
2. Obturator internus
What is the course of the pudendal nerve and internal pudendal vessels?
- Emerge from sacral plexus with S2-4 fibers
- Enter gluteal region through greater sciatic foramen
- Wrap around ischial spine to enter lesser sciatic foramen
- Enter ischiorectal fossa
- Branch into inferior rectal and posterior scrotal
What surrounds the cervix?
Lateral, anterior, and posterior vaginal fornices
What is a lumbar plexus mnemonic for nerve names?
Interested in getting lunch on Friday, Lucy?
iliohypogastric, ilioinguinal, genitofemoral, lateral femoral cutaneous, obturator, femoral, lumbosacral trunk
What is a sacral plexus mnemonic for nerve names?
SLIPS, P
superior gluteal, lumbosacral trunk, inferior gluteal, posterior femoral cutaneous, sciatic, pudendal
