Pediatric Reflex Flashcards
description and integration timeframes
ATNR: Stimulus & Integration
- Rotation of head causes extension of UE with other arm flexing.
- 4-6 months
Crossed Extension Reflex: Stimulus & Integration
- Noxious stimuli to ball of foot of extremity fixed in extension; supine position
- -Response: Flexion & adduction to extension in neutral - 1-2 months
Equilibrium Reactions: Stimulus & Integration
- Cog Displacement: trunk flexion & UE extension
2. Persists (you always have it..?)
Grasp: Stimulus & Integration
- Pressure on palm or ball of foot causing flexion of toes/fingers
- 4-6
Landau’s Reflex: Stimulus & Integration
- In prone, lift/extend head for LE extension. Flex head to reduce LE extension
- Onset 3m, integrated 2 years
Moro Reflex: Stimulus & Integration
- Sudden change in position of head/trunk –> extension/abd/hand opening/crying –> flexion/add/arms across chest
- 5-6 months
Optical and Labyrinthine Righting Reflexes: Stimulus & Integration
- Maintain vertical head position
2. Onset 2m - persists
Positive Support Reaction: Stimulus & Integration
- Contact to the ball of the foot in an upright standing position –> rigid extension of LE c Plantarflexion/ inversion/ clawing/Hip IR
- 6 months
Protective Extension Reaction: Stimulus & Integration
- Displace gravity –> Arms/legs extend and abduct to support body
- onset 4-6 months for UE & 6-9 months for LE
Rooting Reflex: Stimulus & Integration
- Side of face is stimulated with light touch leads to infant turning head toward the side and opens mouth
- 3 months
STNR: Stimulus & Integration
- Flexion of the head –> Flexion of UE & extension of LE
Extension of head –> Extension of UE & flexion of LE - 8-12 months
Tonic Labyrinthine Reflex: Stimulus & Integration
- Prone –> flexion, Supine –> Extension
2. 6 months
Traction Reflex: Stimulus & Integration
- Grasp forearm & pull from supine to sitting –> infant will grasp and flex forward with head lagged behind
- 2-5 months
Complication of Crossed Extension Reflex and Positive Support Reflex
CER (1-2m) & PSR (6m) will cause hyperextension of the knee
Complication of Crossed Extension Reflex with hemiplegia
When involved leg is stimulated and the unaffected limb reflexively flexes/add & extends, extensor tone in the stimulated/affected limb
