Pectoral region/axioappendicular Flashcards
Posterior axioappendicular muscles
[all extrinsic muscles]
superficial =
superficial extrinsic muscles of back (trapezius and latissimus dorsi)
deep =
levator scapulae, rhomboid minor, and rhomboid major
Anterior axioappendicular muscles
pectoralis major
pectoralis minor
subclavius
serratus anterior
Attachments of pectoralis major
Proximal: anterior surface of medial half of clavicle / manubrium, anterior sternum, T1-T6 costal cartilages, external oblique aponeurosis
Distal: lateral lip of intertubercular sulcus of humerus
Action of pectoralis major
adducts, medially rotates, flexes (clavicular), extends humerus at shoulder (sternocostal), depresses/protracts/inferiorly rotates scapula
Blood supply of pectoralis major
pectoral branch of thoracoacromial artery
Innervation of pectoralis major
lateral and medial pectoral nerves clavicular head (C5, C6) sternocostal head (C7, C8, T1)
Attachments of pectoralis minor
Proximal: 3rd-5th ribs near costal cartilages
Distal: medial border and superior surface of coracoid process of scapula
Actions of pectoralis minor
depresses, protracts, and inferiorly rotates scapula
Blood supply of pectoralis minor
pectoral branch of thoracoacromial artery
Innervation of pectoralis minor
medial pectoral nerve (C8, T1)
Attachments of subclavius
Proximal: 1st rib and its costal cartilage
Distal: middle third of clavicle in subclavian groove
Actions of subclavius
assists in stabilizing and depressing clavicle
Blood supply of subclavius
clavicular branch of thoracoacromial artery
Innervation of subclavius
nerve to the subclavius (C5, C6)
Attachments of serratus anterior
Proximal: external surface of lateral parts of ribs 1-9
Distal: anterior surface of medial border of scapula
