the plant is annual wtih glaucous and weak stem .the root system and shallow wtih depth upto 90 cm where the 75% of the biomass is within 60 cm. it is well suited for semi arid regions as it is efficient in utilization of water and fixes nitrogen.
flowers arise from the axil of the leaves in groups of 2-3 .it develops after 32-55 days after DAP. the flowers are mostly self pollinated. teh blossoms are reddish,white or purple.
