- what re the climate requirement for brassica oleracea var botrytis
- what are the effects of temperature that are not inrange within the growing temperature
3.soil requirement and types of cauliflower
1.it needs cool and moist condition for growing
the growing range is between 8-25 degree celsius
the optimum temperature is between 15-20 degree celsius
2.high temperature during curd maturity makes the cauliflower turn yellow and leafy
temperature less than the optimum temperature make the curd maturity delay and the curd undersized
3.soil requrement is sandy loam with well drainage ,ph between 6-7 and the cauliflower is sensitive to acidity
types of cauliflower
according to harvesting time (winter,summer,autuum,spring)
according to color inflorescencea(white,yellow,Green,Purple)
- Varities in Bhutan and their description
- seed rate and sowing
- Nursery raising
1.a Wenhkhar Metokopi 1(OP)-weighs around 600gm,,suitable for low and mid alititudes, maturesin 90 DAT
b. Wengkhar metokopi 2(OP)- mautures in 110 days DAT,produces curd of 800 gram, suitable for mid and high altitudes
c.Snow Crown-uniform,semi dome white head that matures in 90 days DAT with weight of 1 kg curd, recommneded in low and mid regions
d.Snow mystique- ihgh uniformity, semi doem shaped head that mautres in 100 days
e.Shutoko-it has flat and compact head weighing 1.8-2 kg.suited for alititude of 1800 msal in summer and lower altitudes in winter.
2. 200 to 300 grams per acre
sowed in late september to eakry october in high altitudes and march to june in high altittudes
3.prepare a bed of 1 m wide,15-20 cm high, 4-5 m length which is finely pulverised.swo the seeds thinly wtih distance of 10cm and 0.5 cm deep.water the seed after sowing and transplant it after it reaches a height of 12-15 cm
- Field preparation
- fertilizers and manure application
- hardening
- Critical stage of watering is during …………… formation.
- A dry spell followed by heavy irrigation may cause………………. of heads
- exposure to sunlight cause ………….. the cauliflower head
- what is the importance of blanching of cauliflower
- premature heading
1.plough the field two to three times followed by planking til it is well tilted.make a bed of 1m wide with 15-20 cm height.
2.apply welll decomposed FYM of 10-12 tons per acre.
20:30 NP per acre as basal dose
20 kg of N as top dressing after 20 days and afeter 60 days of transplanting.
3.Hardening is done in polytunnel or greeenhouse inorder to have better results. seedlings of 5-6 weeks old have better chance of establishment .
Poly tunnel-remove plastic
Green house -uprooting and repotting
4.Curd
5.splitting
6.discoloration
7.exposure to sunlight causes discoloration of the curd .in most varieties the development of curd causes the inner leaves to open exposing the curd to sunlight. therefore in order to prevent that the leaves of the curd are tight together
8.premature heading occurs in delicate plants which causes buttoning or bolting where the leaves are small with small head exposing the head
1.what are the causes of bolting or buttoning?
.a hot weather or warm winter
b. extreme changes in temperature
c. poor soil condition
d. early sowing
e. lack of control of weeds
f. poor viabiltiy of seeds
1.Mention one post harvest technique to protect the curd ?
1.the leaves of are trimmed 5 cm above the curd inorder to prevent it from damage of discoloration.
