Health
Health is not as simple as just being well. Health is a state of emotional/psychological, physical and social well-being
Fitness
Fitness is the ability to meet the demands of an environment- so for a sportsman, it means being in the right emotional/psychological and physical shape to be able to do what your sport requires of you.
Exercise
Any activities that needs physical effort- often people think of exercise as activities you do to stay fit, however things such as cycling to school is exercise.
Performance
Performance is the action or process of doing something, but the term is also used to describe how you do something or how well you do it.
Hypokinetic Disease
A disease caused by a lack of physical activity or sedentary lifestyle.
Sedentary
Lacking in a physical activity.
Cardiovascular Fitness
Cardiovascular fitness is a health-related component of physical fitness that is brought about by sustained physical activity.
Body Composition
The percentage of body weight that is muscle, fat or bone
What are the 6 Skill-related components of fitness?
Agility, balance, co-ordination, power, reaction time, speed.
Agility
The ability to change position and control the body at speed.
Running a 100m race does not require agility but doing floor work exercises in gymnastic does.
Balance
Being able to keep the body stable while at rest or on the move.
Static balance
Dynamic balance
Co-ordination
The ability to use two or more body parts together.
Power
The ability to undertake strength performances quickly. It can be written as a formula
Speed x Strength
Reaction Time
The time between a stimulus and a movement in response to it
Speed
The rate at which an individual can perform a movement or cover a distance
