impacts movement and mood
lack of dopamine (parkinsons disease is the degeneration of neurons in the substantia nigra)
symptoms= micrographia, rigidity, shuffling gait and frequent falls
can treat with L-dopa
wilson’s disease
rare inherited condition that causes copper levels to build up in several organs, especially the liver, brain and eyes
this can cause parkinsonism
alzheimers
degenerative disease
a clinical diagnosis
histology= amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles
symptoms:
- evolving memory loss
- confusion
- hallucinations
- difficultly eating and swallowing
brain with alzheimers
cortex shrivels, damaging areas involved in thinking and planning
ventricles fill with CSF grow larger
hippocampus shrivels severely
