PCR Flashcards
1
Q
What does PCR stand for?
A
Polymerase Chain Reaction
2
Q
What is needed for PCR?
A
- Taq DNA polymerase
- DNA nucleotides
- RNA primers
(Basically, everything you need for replication, but the polymerase is TAQ specifically)
3
Q
Characteristic feature of Taq polymerase:
A
Does not denature at high temperatures (50-80 degrees Celsius)
4
Q
Use of PCR:
A
Rapid production of multiple copies of DNA
5
Q
Stages of PCR:
A
1) Denaturation
2) Annealing
3) Elongation
6
Q
Stages of PCR:
A
1) Denaturation (strands separate)
2) Annealing (RNA primers attatch)
3) Elongation (Taq DNA polymerase adds DNA nucleotides)
