Hormones from Ch. 6 Flashcards
Progesterone
Endocrine gland: Ovary (secreted by corpus luteum)
Function: Promotes thickening and maintenance of endometrium
Feedback: Inhibits FSH and LH secretion (negative feedback)
Estrogen
Endocrine gland: Ovary (secreted by corpus luteum)
Function:
* Stimulates repair of endometrium
* Stimulates increase in FSH receptors on ovary cells (puberty?)
Feedback:
* Blood concentration falls during menstruation
* Causes reduced FSH secretion (negative feedback)
* Causes increased LH secretion (positive feedback) during follicle development/before ovulation
I think estrogen is also secreted by other methods (during sex determination and puberty onset) but must check
FSH (Follicule Stimulating Hormone)
Endocrine gland: Pituitary
Function: Stimulate follicule development (and production of estrogen by follicule)
Feedback:
* Secretion inhibited by estrogen and progesterone (negative feedback)
