patriots quiz Flashcards
What was the main challenge the battles the patriots faced against the british as sea, how did they overcome it?
The big problem was fighting for Boston. They had some big wins and losses, but it showed they could fight the British. At first, needing a lot of supplies, the Boston leaders sent some people, including women, to New York. Their goal was to attack a place called Fort Ticonderoga. In May 1775, Arnold got the fort and took many weapons. At the same time, the Patriots, who didn’t have much, made sure the British stayed in Boston.
How did the second continental congress decide to handle the british
Deciding to create their own army, sending letters to ask the King for peace, and then writing the Declaration of Independence to say they wanted to be their own country, separate from Britain. Then King George sent more soliders to control them
How did Thomas Paine’s pamphlet Common Sense change the way many people viewed their king? What other significant effects did it have?
Before “Common Sense,” a lot of people thought the problems were because of the British lawmakers and believed King George III was okay. But when they read Paine’s writing, he said that the King was the main bad guy and even called him “the Royal Brute of Britain.” Paine wrote that having kings wasn’t a good idea because they mostly just wanted to help themselves. This made many people question if they should still support the King.
