It is congenital
What are the characteristics of eczema
Can be found all over the body. Very often found in the inside of the knee and elbow joints, on the face, hands and scalp. The skin becomes very dry and itchy causing discomfort in varying amounts. Skin has scaly dry patches with some bleeding. Not contagious as it is a congenital disease meaning it is inherited
How would you recognise dermatitis
An inflammation of the skin, appears as redness on the skin itching and various lesions. This is not contagious
What is the skin condition characterised by red itchy skin covered with silvery scales which constantly shed. Size of scales varies. Bleeding occurs from beneath the sheets of skin
Psoriasis
How would you recognise Acne Vulgaris
Caused by hormonal imbalances which cause an increase in sebum on the skin causing blocked glands and infection. The skin is often shiny and sallow with papules pustules and comedones. Prone to open pores, the skin is often scarred. Not contagious although it is bacterial
What is the bacterial infection characterised by infection of the sebaceous duct causing inflammation
Folliculitis
What are the characteristics of boils
Bacterial infection of the skin, causing inflammation around the hair follicle
How would you recognise impetigo
Skin is covered in thin blisters which weep and leave thick yellow crusts. Highly contagious
What is the following skin disease/disorder;
Gives a flushed red appearance. Occurs on the face aggravated by vasodilation, heat, cold, spicy food, alcohol. especially common in menopausal women
Acne Rosacea
What are the characteristics of warts/veruccas
Small horny tumour found on the thumbs and fingers when compressed on the feet they are referred to as veruccas, they are highly contagious and are viruses.
What is the name of the viral infection commonly known as cold sores
Herpes Simplex
How would you recognise Herpes Zoster (Shingles, Chicken Pox)
Red itchy rash affects spinal nerves on one side of the thorax.
What type of infection is Tinea Pedis
Fungal
How is scabies spread
Through close physical contact and sharing bed linens and clothes

A pigmentation disorder with a lack of skin pigment
