Cholinergic nucleus, in Alzheimers and Down Syndrom,e have cholinergic deficiency and this nucleus is affected
Globus Pallidus
Delayed necrosis of GP from CO poisoning. Get tremor!
Caudate nucleus
Atrophy in huntingtons disease w/ coarse involuntary arm jerking, also get irritabe/impulsive and make inappropriate comments! Over 6 months
Subthalamic Nucleus
Hemiballismus if it strokes out, from a lacunar stroke!
Stimulate or ablate this area for a parkinsons atient!
Mamillary bodies!
Affected by alcoholism, poor nut states, bariatric surgery => thiamine deficiency
Pineal
Parinaud’s or dorsal midbrain syndrome w/ dilated nonreactive pupils and inability to look up. From a pinaloma, blastoma, astrocytoma, or other pathology. Retractory nystagmus if tries to look up
Supraoptic nucleus
Causes eating disorder where you can’t stop eating? Hypothalmic area controls feeding?
Presynaptic ach terminals
Eaton-Lambert syndrome has abs to presynaptic Ca channels, less Ach released
Weakness improves w/ exertion!
Assoc w/ small cell lung cancer!
