Why do we Passage plan and who regulates PP?
A
Carried out to determine the safest and most economical passage between two ports.
Required under the SOLAS Convention - IMO Resolution A.89321 Guidelines for voyage planning - 25th Nov 1999

Passage Planning helps to: (3 main points)
A
- Support the bridge Team
- Ensure the ship can be safely navigated berth to berth, through Risk assessment of Hazards and waypoint selection.
- Should Cover Ocean, Coastal and Pilotage Waters.

A Voyage plan shall identify a Route which:

- Ensure Sufficient Sea room throughout the voyage
- Takes into account marine environmental protection measures.
- Takes into account relevant ship routing systems
- Anticipates All known navigational hazards and adverse weather conditions.
- As far as possible avoid actions and activities which could cause damage to the environment.
