What is the IMO and It’s purpose?
The IMO are an organisation that has been in existence for about 70 years, they are in charge of creating new conventions and making sure everything is staying up to date!
They exists to play a key role in the ensuring that lives at sea are not put in at risk and the marine environment are not polluted by shipping.

Annual summary of notice to mariners part 1
Has 26 sections and then the rest is T’s and P’s.
A lot of the sections, have been moved to NP100 and other nautical publications.
Has a list of all the T’s and P’s in force on the first of the year.
Comes out in the 1st of every year.

Solas Chapter 5 regulation 31 - Danger Messages?
The master of every ship which meets with dangerous ice, a dangerous derelict or any other direct danger to navigation or a tropical storm or encounters sun freezing air temperatures associated with gale force winds causing severe ice accretion on superstructure or winds of force 10 and above which was to forecast, is bound to communicate the information by all available means at his disposal to ships in the vicinity and also competent authorities.
Should be sent using safety signal “sécurité”
