Used with a subject to form a sentence
Eg. James peeled the Orange (actions)
Sarah can smell the roses (state)

What are the two (2) main types of verbs

Transitive
- verb followed by a subject.
Eg. James washed the dishes (someone is doing something to someone)
eg. James is cooking (used like intransitive to describe what someone is doing)

Intransitive
- verbs that cannot follow an object. It simply ‘does’ an action
Eg. Let’s eat, we lost the game.

Base form vs infinitive

Base form verb - a transitive or intransitive

infinite verb - refers to an action as whole, a consequence of action
rule: (to) + base form
Eg. (what does he hope to do?) He hopes to drive

Regular verbs - Past simple/principle = ..(ed) eg. Hope

Irregular verbs - past/simple do not end in ..(er) eg. Begin
