Definition - a word that describes the noun ( the person place or thing)
How are adjectives presented in a sentence
- basic rules
- Clusters
adjectives can be presented in clusters- last separated by ‘and’ eg. The teacher is tall, dark (and) stunning
- adjectives preceding the noun eg. The tall, dark, stunning, (teacher)
- Order
Size - age - colour - a material - (noun) Eg. The small, old, blue, plastic table
Formats to compare adjectives
- 2 categories
one/one - “comparative” adjectives
two/more - “superlative”
Comparative Adjectives

(Adjective) + …er.
Eg. Helen is tall(er) than Maria
Words ending in /y = (i)er Eg. Easy, eas(ier)
/ n,d,t = double last letter + er eg. sad(der), thin(ner), hot(ter)
Superlative adjectives

The (adjective) +…est.
eg. Sara is the tall(est) in the class
adjective = 3 or more syllables = “more” + adjective
eg. (more) difficult
Irregular comparatives
