What is an article?
Used with a noun to indicate the type of reference being made by the noun - does it refer to a general member of the group or specific one.

an + singular noun beginning with a vowel (eg. an elephant)
a + singular noun beginning with consonant (eg. a ball)
a + singular noun beginning with a consonant sound (eg a uniform)
some + a (plural noun) eg. some pens
(Adjective) + (noun) - sound of adjective

Eg. The box
exceptions = geographical locations
= general references / statements (zero articles)
eg. Coffee is a hot drink, music is popular.
