Particulars Flashcards
The honey hole defense to a single leg
Step behind your opponent with your free leg & take him over that leg, as though scissoring him backwards. Can then step over if he refuses to release your initially captured leg
North/South Choke musts
Choking arm (arm around his head) is palm down. Cinching arm is palm up
If he is blocking with his chin, pretend to give up by moving up his chest and then immediately return
Briefly block both his arms with your body (your side) and with ur hands at his tricep (far side) enough to sink the choke
Your choking him slowly with your bicep (far side carotid) your forearm (backstop) and ribs (near side carotid)
Waiter Sweep concepts here. Review step by step in your head. If cannot review via video.
Your using your attacking leg to push above his knee while simultaneously “scooping” his other leg up with a bicep flex motion
Must break posture by controlling at the collar or controlling the shoulder by pulling the wrist (no gi)
The sweep is from your hips acting against his one side (the side your legs are on)
DLR to RDLW to back take (with arm bar option) sequence
part 1
Aggressive DLR with far knee/leg push & foot lapel swipe, DLR hook thru to block front far hip while switching hips to allow other leg to come up/over near arm for back take. Take back or set up Worm

Part II
Opponent back steps too far (can follow into x guard or come around the front by switching hips) or squares up. He squares up? sit up enough to steal lapel & pass it over the far leg & behind opponent’s knee. Switch hips to match opponent body position & take lapel palm up under my leg.

III
Once in RDLW, (palm up) need my knee above his knee. If not, far (free) leg kicks up to give momentum for a slight inversion as my head goes towards my opponent, or! i can place the free leg into his crotch to (deep DLR) threaten a sweep & hip up over his knee (in every case must control the arm if its blocking his knee). Then simply leave the deep DLR hook in, reach up w/ free hand, pull him onto you (load him up) & kick out so he falls into ur arms or arm bar him

Arm-bar Option
As taking his back, if opponent stiff arms me to prevent, can push opponent’s hips away so his body his turned away from me and I go into a side mounted closed guard. He now has an extended limb, so his structure is compromised. I trap his gripping hand to my chest, roll over with my hips/top knee to force his shoulder down (breaking posture) then let that knee slide over/across his face to secure the submission (if he hides his arm behind you, still armbar…if he brings it into himself take his back).

Armbar Option-Finishing Details
Can bring your leg/thigh in front of his face in case opponent is very flexible or can roll thru to traditional armbar if u place ur shin against his face/neck
Brabo from side basics
They underhook u to escape, top arm wizzars thru so hand is behind their head, step in front of opponent’s underhooking arm, lock hand into elbow crease (Antecubital) & pressure into opponent’s shoulder w/ your chest
Brabo from side important details
- Break posture as needed (clasp hands and pull head toward you to improve finishing grip)
- Step over, smash down and get in front of opponent’s underhook arm to improve finishing grip
- Rule of Thumb: thumbs up along the back of the neck
- The choke is ur bicep, forearm, and their shoulder but the pressure is from their shoulder being driven by your body weight (chest/clavical)
- If your squeezing ur doing it wrong
Arm Triangle from Side
Details
- smash their face until they’re forced to move their arms
- use your head to get into position once they’ve opened their elbows (duck under)
- Like w/ the n-s choke, “wrapping” arm’s hand is palm down
- dont darce lock it
- head down, clock drive into them because the pressure is the shoulder driving into their neck
- go slow. Be deliberate.
Uchi Mata set up, Grips, & Posture
Medium low position
Fight for Over hook
Head inside, driving his head away
Control far arm
Watch out for body lock/suplex if standing too tall
Watch his hips in case he attempts a throw
Uchi Mata Kazushi and Attack
Pressure into opponent’s shoulder w/ overhook
Control far arm as best you can
Force opponent far leg to step (load weight) while stepping your inside (kicking up) leg in between his
Drive shoulder down/away while rotating hips around in a circle
Mount Escapes
Box Frame
Elbow to the mat, fist into his hip on the side you want to get your legs into 1/2 guard
Other arm’s forearm across his midsection, joins ur other hand on the hip
Escaping side leg flat, bump opponent with other knee, shrimp enough to get straight leg under opponent’s shin
Once clear/under opponent’s leg, use other leg to pull opponent’s leg further over, securing the leg escape
Shrimp aggressively to that side, get 1/2 guard
