Q
Types of Pathogens:
How does bacteria cause disease?

Q
Types of Pathogens:
What are the different bacterial shapes?
A
- cocci - round, strep and staph
- bacilli - rod shaped, tetanus and TB
- curved rods - vibrio, cholera
- spirachetes - spiral, leprosy and syphilis
3
Q
Types of Pathogens:
- unlike bacteria these do not have a cellular structure
- these are infectious particles that contain small amounts of genetic material (DNA/RNA)
- reproduce after releasing their genetic material into a living organism
A
virus

Q
Types of Pathogens:
- this is similar to plants but lack chlorophyll
- can be an overgrowth of normal flora
A
fungi
5
Q
Types of Pathogens:
- single cell, animal like organisms
- parasite
A
protozoa

Q
In what 3 ways are infections classified according to location?
A
- localized
- disseminated (traveling)
- systemic (typically sepsis)
7
Q
What is a solution to emerging and reemerging infections?
A
vaccinations
