Bang about / around :
- (often + in) I could hear him banging about in the kitchen.
- The neighbours have been banging about next door all morning . I wonder what they are doing .
- I couldn’t get to sleep because of John banging around upstairs .

Pitch in :
- Meetings work best when everyone pitches in rather than one person talking all the time.
- (sometimes + with) The newspapers have all pitched in with advice about what the government should do.
- my brother pitched in with an offer to lend us some money .

Fly around :
- (usually in continuous tenses) Nobody knew where George had gone, but there were all sorts of rumours flying around.
- There’s a ridiculous story about Jane having a drinking problem flying about the office.
- I hate the way rumours fly around the office .

Sweep aside ( sb ) :
- England swept aside Holland 4-1 in the European Championship.
- Government troops were swept aside by the advancing rebel forces.

Potter around :
- She spent the afternoon pottering about in the garden.
- Sunday is usually spent pottering around the house.
- Nothing much ! Just pottering about at home !

Floating around / about :
- My copy’s floating about here somewhere but I just can’t find it .
- I’m sure I saw your list floating around somewhere.

Skirt around :
- I felt that he skirted around the most important issues.
- politicians often skirt around the truth and dont give direct answers to the questions .
- He always skirts around the issue whenever I bring up pay raises for the people on my team.

Pelt down :
- Take an umbrella with you - it’s pelting down outside.
- (sometimes + with) It’s been pelting down with rain all day.

Come down :
• It all comes down to money in the end.( همه چى دست اخر به پول ختم ميشه )

Put down :
- It was only after I’d put the phone down that I realised what I’d said.
- (sometimes + on) He put the phone down on me in the middle of what I was saying.

Clown around / about :
- Theo was clowning around last night at the party .
- He clowns around and makes you laugh.
- The girls have no musical experience and clown around with their instruments.
- I think he always clowns around a bit childish .
- He made the kids laugh by clowning around with pieces of fruit .

Float around / about :
• Rumours about his condition had been floating about for a long time.

Run around :

Go down :

- Did you notice the way he bosses his wife around?

Ask around :
- I have asked around here and there to see if they need any full-time teacher.
- I’ll ask around at work and see if anyone can babysit.
- if you ask around , you might be able to find someone with a car for sale .
كارهاى احمقانه كردن ( اغلب كودكان )
Play around :
- Come on, stop playing around and get on with your homework.
- (sometimes + with) You shouldn’t play around with matches - didn’t your mother ever tell you that?
- children! Stop playing around ! Sit politely .

Work around :
- It’s a problem , but I’m sure we can work around it .
- They knew how to work around the import restrictions.
- I need to take the car into the garage some time today, but I’ll work round it somehow.

Pull out :
- (often + of) After lengthy negotiations the company pulled out of the deal.
- They’ve pulled all their athletes out of the competition.
- The business was failing so my partner pulled out.
قابل مقایسه بودن، (با چیز دیگر) سنجش پذیر بودن
Stack up : ( against )
- (usually + against) Our new car doesn’t stack up against (= is not as good as) our old one.
- our rural schools stack up well against their urban counterparts .
- Teachers will know how they stack up against national standards. ( چگونه با معيارهاى ملى سنجيده مى شوند )

Put out ( sb ) / put ( sb ) out :
- (usually negative) If we could bring Sam that would be great but I don’t want to put you out at all.
- (sometimes reflexive) It has to be said of Matthew that he doesn’t put himself out for anyone.
