Slam down :
- The teacher slammed a book down to get the students’ attention.
- I guessed he was pretty angry because he slammed the phone down.

Pull out :
- A car suddenly pulled out in front of me.
- I was just waiting for a gap in the traffic so that I could pull out.
- a bit further on i pulled out to overtake a big lorry.
- He pulled out in front of me without even looking.

Fall on :
• They fell upon the bread and cheese as if they had not eaten for days.

Come across :
- (usually + as) The hero in the film comes across as slightly crazy.
- Helen came across as being an extremely intelligent woman.
- I thought Paul Glover came across well in the interview.
- We were told that Sue would be ideal for the job, but she came across badly when we talked to her.

Pin down :
- (often + to) Paul says he’ll come and visit in the spring but I haven’t managed to pin him down to a date yet.
- (sometimes + on) She refuses to be pinned down on how much her business lost in 1995.
- I’ve been trying to get a decision from Stephanie but she’s proving difficult to pin down.

• A Monday at work is a bit of a comedown after such a brilliant weekend.

Put down :
- (often + for) You have to put a child down for nursery almost as soon as they’re born.
- (sometimes + to do sth) I’ve put myself down to do French classes next term.
- (sometimes + as) He’d put me down as next of kin so I was the first to be informed of his death.

Put out :
- You’d better put your cigarette out before Terry sees it.
- Ben grabbed the fire extinguisher and put the fire out.

Tie down :
- (sometimes + to) They tied him down to the bed so he couldn’t escape.
- We loaded a ladder onto the roof of the van and tied it down with a length of rope.

• (usually + on) If I were cast away on a desert island, I think it’s chocolate that I’d miss most.

Konck down :

- She got knocked down by a motorbike.

Rev up :
- Both teams are revving up for the championships.
- They hope the new musical will rev up ticket sales for the summer season. ( بهبود بخشيدن )

- The hotel is revving up for the busy summer season. ( نوسازى )

Cut in :
- The cooling system cuts in when the temperature gets too high.
- If the pressure drops below the safety level, the pump will cut in.

Get down :
• All this uncertainty is really getting me down.
- The house is always untidy and it’s starting to get me down.
- This rain is getting me down .

Stow away :
- (often + in) The camping equipment had been stowed away in the loft.
- He stowed away carrots and potatoes in the cellar.

Hold back :
- (often + from) Information is sometimes held back from patients when it is thought it might upset them.
- The army are still holding back details of their casualties.

Turn down :
- Could you turn the radio down a little?
- Bring to the boil, then turn down the heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
