loss of consciousness. normal interictal phase. flaccid. EKG normal. EEG flat.
narcolepsy. flat EEG supports rem sleep and normal EKG r/o syncopal event
fly biting, lip smacking, stargazing. conscious and responsive in epsiodes
normal EKG and EEG
rule out GI disease, could be behavioral
herding dog that is “chasing invisible rabbits” conscious. after episodes are agressive
focal hallucinogenic seizures. EEG should have a spike during episodes. treat as seizure
head tilt, vestibular signs, ataxia, resolves in 24 hours
vestibular attacks
what can cause vestibular attacks
hypothyroidism, cerebellar hypoplasia, hypertension
young scottish terrier disease
hypertonicity
what does terrier hypertonicity look like
impaired muscle tone, peg leg walking, kyphotic posture. young. during stress
treatment for terrier hypertonicity
usually self limiting and will grow out of it without meds
diazepam and fluoxetine
involuntary, rhythmic head nodding or shaking, dog is conscious, owner can interrupt episodes. no autonomic signs
idiopathic head tremor
what is the treatment for idiopathic head tremor
drugs dont help, nonprogressive disease
sudden collapse, loss of consciousness, +- autonomic signs, +- myoclonic jerks
hook up EEG and EKG. if EKG shows arrhythmias- syncopal episodes. if EEG shows spike, seizure
