mentation change work up Flashcards
what do you do once you have history and signalment
decide if its systemic dz vs neurologic by TPR and neuro exam
formula for cerebral perfusion pressure
MAP-iCP=CPP
if primary neurologic what is our concern about maintaining CPP
if the intracranial pressure gets too great we can decrease perfusion to the brain. which would cause ischemia
what are signs of increased intracranial pressure
miosis or mydriasis
tetrapariesis
cranial nerve or proprioceptive deficits
bradycardia
how does the body compensate for a increased ICP
increasing map= becuase pa CO2 was too high
this causes vagal tone response to high MAP and causes bradycardia
how do we decrease ICP
decrease edema; mannitol hypertonic saline fast
craniectomy
remove tumor or lesion
what are things we can give/treat in a mentation change patient
get TPR CBC/CHEM and fix all abnormalitities
fluids, electrolytes, warm up temp, oxygen
