Parkinsons disease Flashcards
Describe PD (7)
Chronic PND in NS, 20-40yo 50-per 100k uk
Demylination process
Degeneration of dopaminergic in neurons in substantia niagra in the BSN
Proteins found in neurons of sufferers
SN sends neurons to strictum to release dopamine
Dec in neurons = dec ability for thalamus to produce dopamine
dec in movement and slow progression
Describe symptoms of PD (6)
Bradykinesia (slow reduction in movement)
Tremors in spec locations
Limbs or chin area
Imbalanced movement
Risk: Age, history, mutation of glucoseribidose gene
Exposure to MPTP
Diagnosis for PD (5)
No test only view symptoms
FMH or Physical examination
Refer to neurologist
Gene restriction suspected in elderly
use SPECT (Single photon emitted computed topography) used to rule out symptoms
Treatment for PD (5)
Mild: Consume dopaminergic agent inc QOL
Physical + cognitive therapy
Moderate Pd: 100mg daily of levadopa dec symptoms
P+C therapy also recommended
LS Pd: Deep brain stimulations for tremours + for severe refractory fluctation dec symptoms, P+C
