Osteoperosis Flashcards
Pathophysiology 6
disorder, red BM due to inc bone erosion greater than BF
red in bone strength + higher fracture
osteoclasts resorb bone matric and osteoblasts create new bone
imbalance causes OP, supply affects cavity repair
Remodelling controlled by cytokines
RANK2 prod by OB binds to OC to promote funciton
Cause 4
vit d + test def
Abnormal thyroid functions
high level parathyroid functions
alcoholism, diabetes, liver d
Symptoms 5
bone pain, anemia, renal failure
fractures
skeletal deformity
spontaneous HF
spinal kyphosis
diagnosis 4
BAsed on fragility using t score <2.5
Measure density using x-ray absorpantry
ultra-s to measure bone strength
quantitive computed tomography - trabecular bone density
treatment 3
goal to prevent fractures; exercise for strength and balance
calc + vid int, biphosphates for pharmocolgical therapy
no cure
