Parasympatholytic Flashcards
what kind of drugs are here?
Anticholinergic, muscarinic receptor antagonist
Name one drug that is a parasympatholytic?
Atropine
What active substances are parasympatholytic?
Atropine, glycopyrrolate, homatropine, tropicamide, Ipratropium, Benzethimid, Butyl-scopalamine
Atropine,
Eye (cyclopegia, mydresis. Cardiovascular system. GI-tract - hyposalivation. Bronchi - bronchidilation, decrease mucous secretion.
- highly toxic, crosses BBB
- Clinical: premedication, OP-toxicosis, uveitis
glycopyrrolate
indication: preanesthetic anticholinergic agent in dogs and cats.
In dogs it reduces salivary, tracheobronchial and pharyngeal secretions, reduces free acidity of gastric secretion, and blocks cardiac vagal inhibitory reflexes.
homatropine,
diagnostics in eye exam
tropicamide,
diagnostics in eye exam
Ipratropium,
COPD (Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and asthma (inhalation)
- very low BBB penetration , so very safe
Benzethimic
antidiarrheal
Butyl-scopalamine.
anti-spasmatic, colic
Explain the effect of antidiarhoels and one example:
Segments inhibition are inhibited ,
Benzethimide: decreases secretion and motility

Mydriatic used for treatment of uveitis
